AIR Loss Estimates in Real Time (ALERTTM)

AIR Worldwide Corporation, a subsidiary of ISO, offers ALERTTM — an online service providing up-to-date information and loss estimates for major natural catastrophes worldwide. ALERT issues real-time loss estimates for U.S. hurricanes, as well as major earthquakes, tropical and extratropical cyclones, and other significant perils for many regions of the world.

As an insurer, reinsurer, or investor, you need to obtain reliable catastrophe loss information quickly — as actual events unfold — to make decisions on:

• deploying claims adjusters
• allocating financial resources
• hedging strategies
• communications to investors and rating agencies

In the case of U.S. hurricanes, ALERT posts storm information up to 48 hours before projected landfall. AIR simulates hundreds of potential scenarios using a range of possible storm tracks, wind speeds, and other intensity variables. AIR then posts a representative subset along with estimates of industry losses and postal-code-level maps of wind speeds and losses. We also provide a narrative description of event parameters, location, and projected course. And if you're a licensed user of AIR software applications, you can download files containing all scenarios and input them directly to calculate company-specific losses.
