When
you're writing an insurance policy on a commercial or residential
property, you want to know about your customer's past claims — or other
losses at the same location. ISO's A-PLUSTM property database is your best source of underwriting information about those past claims.
With
claims reports from more than 1,440 insurance companies — representing
95 percent of the industry's premium volume — A-PLUS is the largest
source of property claims data for underwriting. In fact, the A-PLUS
property database has more than twice as many contributors as our
largest competitor.
And
A-PLUS has the broadest mix of contributors, including FAIR plans,
managing general agents, joint underwriting associations, and other
insurance pools — as well as insurance companies of all sizes and
types. That diversity gives you the most powerful tool for making
underwriting decisions.
Here's how it works
When
a person or business submits an insurance application to an A-PLUS
participating insurer, the underwriter — or an authorized insurance
agent — can request a search of the A-PLUS database. The request
includes brief information about the applicant and the property
location. The A-PLUS system then searches the database for previous
claims filed by that person or business — or by other individuals or
businesses at the risk location. The system summarizes the search
results and returns a report to the underwriter or agent.

The
information in an A-PLUS report can help your underwriter or agent
estimate the level of risk — and how much issuing a policy to the
particular applicant is likely to cost your company in the years ahead.
